During the Palm Sunday service yesterday, our pastor challenged the congregation to go on a “fast”during the Passion Week, as a way to commemorate what Jesus had sacrificed for us. He listed many things that we might choose to fast, from traditional ones such as not eating meat to modern ones such as not watching TV. I chose attending the morning prayer beginning at 6:15am at church as my “fast”.
This morning our pastor shared from Matthew 21:12~17. Jesus cleared the temple and declared the house of God should be a house of prayer, rather than a marketplace. He then healed the blind and the lame that came to the temple. The pastor challenged us when we pray for healing, physical or otherwise, that we believe God heals, and to pray that the church will be a place of healing for the people who come.
As I reflect on what he has shared, I thank God for the healing that has taken place in my life. Looking at who I am now, many people think I have sailed through life fairly smoothly. But I have another story to tell. For those of you who are interested, I have attached the story as a separate piece of writing.
Much of the healing came from the church for me, but I knew sometimes people got hurt in the church as well. My prayer is that no matter what kind of ministry we are involved, we will recognize that people are more important than getting things done.
May you experience the perfect healing in you life because Jesus has come this week. Shalom!
