I was in a meeting this morning for volunteers serving internationals during Mission Korea 2006 (July 31~August 4), the Korean equivalent of Urbana Mission Conference in North America. I have been recruited to interpret in the morning of August 4, first English to Chinese for Bob Sjogren (http://unveilinglory.gospelcom.net), Bible expositor for the Conference, then Chinese to English for a missionary from China and a Chinese student.
How I have been recruited is a story that nothing ever happens by coincidence in God's plan.
I was in the Through the Bible study on Sunday afternoons in our church two weeks ago as usual. Pastor Andy Tschong was about to begin the study on Micah and Hosea, when out of the blue he mentioned that the pastor for the Chinese congregation shared during the weekly worship service for the ministry staff at Onnuri Church (We have services in 10 languages). One thing that stuck in Pastor Andy's mind was a Chinese proverb which translated literally meant "You can have a boat in a high official's belly". He turned and looked straight at me and said," Perhaps this sister knows how it is actually said in Chinese." It is not an obscure proverb, so I have no trouble saying it in Chinese. During recess a sister from another small group approached me and asked," So you are able to speak both English and Chinese. We are looking for someone who can interpret Chinese-English for Mission Korea Conference!" I told this sister I would consider and left my e-mail with her. Several connections later I end up with this assignment to interpret English-Chinese in Korea.
During today's meeting something equally interesting was announced-- the largest groups from the 150 internationals registered for the Conference will be from China and Taiwan! The growth of house churches in China is better known, while few knows that in Taiwan Christians account for less than 5% of the entire population. Only God knows what roles China and Taiwan will play in His Kingdom plan.
