When I first returned to Taipei after college, I took a job that paid only $19,000 per month. It was below average even during that time.
However, 15 years later I am still in contact with colleagues who have worked with me during that job, and I meet with them at least once a year. These friendships are priceless.
That job later led to the job at CommonHealth, since it gave me the media experience to complement by medically-related academic background that they were seeking.
I have also learned how to live simply during that time. That's one reason why I haven't fallen into the common pitfall of spending more as I make more.
My conclusion: do what you love, rather than focus too much on the salary, especially for the first job.
